Referral letters
We are offering all our patients a copy of their referral
letter. If you would like a copy of your referral letter please
ask one of our receptionists or send us an email using an email
address you are happy to receive confidential information on.
Please wait at least ten working days before collecting a copy
of your letter from the receptionist or expecting an email
reply.
Our doctors review all the referrals made by each other on a
daily basis. In most cases the referral will be approved by a
different doctor from the one referring. However in some cases a
referral is not felt to be appropriate at that time. This may be
due to several factors. Often another GP within the practice
will be able to help just as well and more efficiently than a
hospital referral. Alternatively it may be that hospital
guidelines, PCT restrictions or the nature of the condition make
a referral inappropriate at that time. If the decision is made
to delay your referral then you will be informed and an
alternative suggestion will be made. Please note that all
practices in the area are practising a similar referral
management scheme.
Urgent referrals, for example when a cancer is suspected, will
NOT be subject to the referral management scheme.

Premises for Woodlands Surgery
Tell us your views!
Woodlands Surgery needs to find new premises. Many patients know
that our current building is only a temporary home. Since moving
to the station area in 2005 we have had a number of discussions
with our current landlord and others about possible buildings
but to date we have not finalised anything. We hope that you
will take the time to read the questions and answers below which
we hope will update you with the current situation.
Please also tell us your views about them by filling in the
feedback form (downloadable below) and either post, email or
hand the form in at reception. Of particular importance to us
are your views on any new location.
The closing date for you to send us your comments is Tuesday
24th May 2011.

Questions and Answers leaflet HERE (PDF file)

The final decision on whether any plans and
new building will be supported and go ahead will be made by NHS
Cambridgeshire. Cambridge City Council will also have to grant
planning permission. All the views received will be considered
and support us secure a future for woodlands surgery.
Please tell us what you think. It is really important to us.
Thank you.
Minor Surgery
We have been offering a minor surgery service for the removal of small skin lesions where appropriate. Recently we have had cut backs in the funding of this service so we are only able to remove skin lesions which are causing significant symptoms or where we are unsure of the diagnosis. Please make an appointment with one of our doctors if you think you may be eligible for the removal of a skin lesion and we can assess each case on an individual basis.
Weigh2Go
Weigh2Go is a new 12 week weight management programme for adults living in Cambridge City & South Cambs and offers structured one to one weight management support tailored to each individual and is now available at this practice. It is a free service and it will be delivered by trained staff and supported by the dietetic service. Please see our latest newsletter or ask in the surgery for further information.
Summary care record
The idea of the summary care record is that summaries (medication, allergies, diagnosis and other important information) would be uploaded from the GP record to a central database. Other clinicians (such as Accident and Emergency staff, ambulance crew, hospital doctors) with the patients’ permission, would then be able to access this useful information. This has been piloted in a few areas of the country and so far about 1.5 million records have been uploaded. Patients would be informed that this was going to happen and unless they “opted out” their summary record would be uploaded once the practice, where they are registered, agreed it was now appropriate to do so.
Last year the previous government decided to pay for informing patients about this. This is why back in March all our patients, were written to by the local Primary Care Trust informing them about the summary care record ( and we are giving out an information pack to all our new patients ).
Our patient records will not be uploaded until the practice is content that all the appropriate safe guards are in place, including that patients have been properly informed. A major report has just been published about this, the new government have announced they want to review it, and the British Medical Association are in the process of reviewing it as well. There may be more announcements regarding this by the time you read this.
Our practice will only upload patient records once we decide that it is right to do so for our patients, and it would only be sensible to wait until these other bodies have a settled view about the SCR.
Patients have the right to opt out at any time with out question. If you wish that your records are not uploaded then please contact reception, who can give you a simple form, as well as more detailed information.
