Alcohol Consumption Screening

It is a government priority to address the issue of illness associated with increasing alcohol consumption and reducing alcohol related hospital admissions is now a measure of performance for the NHS.

Woodlands Surgery is contracted to screen all newly registered patients aged 16 and over regarding their alcohol consumption. One of the ways in which to do this is to request that new patients fill in a questionnaire which is based on a World Health Organisation (WHO) version.

Those patients whose alcohol intake is deemed to be at a hazardous, harmful or dependent level will receive intervention to help reduce the amount of alcohol they consume. Again this intervention is based on advice from WHO and provided by our practice.
